Crafted with care, our coffee tables are available in various sizes and crafted from a selection of exquisite woods, including walnut, cherry, maple, and other unique urban and recycled varieties. At Dumonds Custom Furniture, we prioritize sustainability by utilizing solar power in our off-grid shop, resulting in a small carbon footprint. We also strive to incorporate recycled and reclaimed wood whenever feasible, ensuring ecologically sound products.

By collaborating with small sawmills across the country, we source beautiful and distinct woods. These materials often come from urban trees damaged in storms or removed to make room for construction. We embrace this responsible form of harvesting, going the extra mile to transform these trees into functional heirloom furniture. On one occasion, I personally traveled over 2000 miles from Montana to Maryland, working with a small tree service company that converted urban trees into firewood. With their newly acquired small sawmill, we gave these trees a new purpose, breathing life into stunning wood slabs instead of consigning them to wood stoves.

Upon receiving the materials, we carefully stack and air dry the wood, allowing it to reach the optimal moisture content. This patient process takes approximately one year per inch of thickness. Only when the wood has achieved the necessary dryness can we begin working with it, ensuring a final piece free from warping, cracking, or bowing. We meticulously plane, sand, and finish the slabs, preparing them for their destined role as exquisite furniture.

Many of our coffee tables boast unique shapes, showcasing the captivating “Soul of the tree” concept coined by George Nakashima in his eponymous book. Inspired by the remarkable shapes found within individual wood pieces, we embraced the live edge style developed by Nakashima in the 1960s. This approach allows us to infuse our craftsmanship with greater creativity, resulting in truly remarkable pieces.

With over 30 years of collecting wood slabs, we meticulously curate our inventory, handpicking the most extraordinary pieces for our collection of over 30 distinct coffee tables. Each table possesses its own unique shape, species, and story. Our wood species come from various states, including Pennsylvania, Utah, California, Maryland, Oregon, and more. Small sawmill owners contact us, offering limited supply selections of hardwood slabs. We ship materials from across the country to meet our customers’ specific needs.
